Today, despite the rain, we decided to head out to Battle Creek Falls. This is the fourth time we've been there. We chose it for this afternoon because Dixie had an interview this morning and it is one of the closest hikes in our guide (60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Salt Lake City - our goal for the Summer is visit each of these hikes).
What I love about Battle Creek Falls is that it is a great 'destination' hike with a beautiful twin falls.
The video I took doesn't really give you an idea of the height of the falls which is pretty substantial.
The Battle Creek Trail is just to the right of Kiwanis Park in Pleasant Grove, a nice place to have a picnic before or after the hike.
Here's what the beginning of the trail looks like from the parking lot.
They've added some cool touches to the trail since the last time I was here; this marker is one of them. There is also some improvements near the falls where the trail had once been nearly eroded away . . . I was especially glad for that repair.
Dixie says these don't belong here, but I always like iris.
You know I'm all about the wildflowers.
It was raining when we started the hike. I saw these raindrops and had to capture them.
This trail has lots of visual interest.
I love the quartz (marble?) ribbons in this granite. You see it all over the place, but I still think its beautiful.
Looking back over the bridge we just crossed.
See the face in the outcropping? Reminds me of a tiki.
This tree between the falls was standing the last time I was here. It is kind of sad to see the element have finally knocked it over.
Another shot at the top of the falls.
A steep little scramble leads down to the base of the falls.
One last wildflower Dixie found.
Once again, this hike was labeled a 'one' in difficulty in our guide. It is pretty steep at points and the climb never really lets down. Still, the length is less than a mile to the falls and well worth the effort.
Happy trails!
